NTUA ranked first among Greek Universities within 2023 according to ΗΑΗΕ yearly report

The National Technical University of Athens has taken the first place in the ranking of Greek Universities, accumulating 2947 points. The ranking is carried out annually by the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE), so that, based on it, state funding is distributed by the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports to 23 of the Greek Universities.

Both objective criteria (such as the number of students) and qualitative criteria are considered for the ranking process.

The application of the objective criteria for the distribution of state funding in the year 2024 has developed an allocation factor corresponding to the National Technical University of Athens up to 3,56%.

For the application of the quality criteria, quality indicators are examined, which are divided into the following sections:

A) continuous improvement of the basic academic activities of the University,

B) excellence in research and performance of scientific staff,

C) interconnection with the society, the labour market, and the utilisation of the generated knowledge,

D) internationalization,

E) quality of the university environment.

An important role in NTUA’s first place in the ranking of Greek universities for 2023 was enacted by the improvement of the quality criteria for the interconnection with the society, the labour market, and the utilization of the generated knowledge, through targeted actions, and in particular the Technology Transfer Office and the Training and Lifelong Learning Center (e-learning). Also noteworthy is the first place of NTUA, which has remained stable in recent years, in the criterion regarding excellence in research and the performance of its research staff. The above quality characteristics have established NTUA in the highest positions of the national ranking and at the same time constantly improve the position of the institution in international evaluations.

The Rector, Prof. Ioannis Hatjigeorgiou, expressing his satisfaction for NTUA's first place, has declared: "The first place in the national ranking proves the prestige and strong presence of the National Technical University of Athens. It is an undeniable witness to the institution's interfusion in the international academic environment and the production of high-quality research thanks to the outstanding scientific performance of its research staff. At the same time, it is a guarantee for the quality of NTUA graduates, who enjoy esteem and respect at national and international level."
