NTUA LiDAR system deployment to the North Pole
Professor Alexandros Papayannis (LiDAR Team, Laboratory of Optoelectronics, Lasers and their applications, Department of Physics, School of Applied Mathematics and Physical Sciences, National Technical University of Athens) within the framework of CleanCloud Horizon-2020 research program participates in a research mission to the Villum research station (https://villumresearchstation.dk), North Greenland (81°36’ N, 16°40’ W).
The NTUA LiDAR Team sends a LiDAR system to measure, for the first time worldwide, the vertical distribution of aerosols and the height of the Atmospheric Boundary Layer in an area that is so close to the North Pole.
LidAR system measurements will be carried out on a continuous basis by Romanos Foskini (Dr. NTUA), postdoctoral researcher at the Federal Technical University of Lausanne (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne - EPFL).
The CleanCloud research project aims to promote and further understand the Aerosol-cloud interactions (ACI) processes and how they will evolve in the transition to the post-fossil regime. The final goal of the CleanCloud project is to reduce uncertainties in climate models through a better representation of ACI and achieve better short and long-term climate predictions.
