NTUA participates in the European research initiative “SUPREME” for the synthesis of novel, antimicrobial, nanoparticle (NP) filled coatings.

The aim of this project is to minimize the spread of pathogens that everyday activities may give rise to. The synthesis of sustainable and efficient photocatalytic and antimicrobial nanocoatings on various surfaces such as paper and cardboard, metals and alloys, textiles, ceramics and plastics will be pursued. The development of these materials will be based on high safety standards in order to ensure that all materials reaching the market will be safe for both humans and the environment.

The SUPREME consortium comprises 19 European organizations from 8 countries, including research institutes, top educational institutions and international companies.

NTUA is involved in the development and characterization of these innovative nanomaterials as well as the scaling-up of the process.
