 Prof.
Marinos Kavouras, P Eng, obtained a Diploma in
Rural and Surveying Engineering (1979) from the National Technical University
of Athens (NTUA) in Greece.
He received his MScE (1982) and his PhD (1987) from the University
of New Brunswick in Canada.
In parallel to his position as a Professor of GIScience and Cartography, he
has served as Dean of the School of
Rural & Surveying Engineering of NTUA (2006-2010), Director of
Cartography Laboratory, Director of the NTUA Geoinformatics Graduate
Programme (2007-2010), Vice President of the Hellenic Cadastral Agency KTIMATOLOGIO
SA (2004-2009), Chair of Working Group II/6 - System Integration and
Interoperability (2004-08) and Co-Chair Working Group ICWG II/IV - Semantic
Interoperability and Ontology for Geospatial Information (2008-12) of the
International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS). He has
served in numerous organizing and scientific committees, and as a reviewer in
scientific journals. He is a member of the series editors of Dissertations in
Geographic Information Science (IOS Press). Furthermore, he has undertaken
various research programmes in Geoinformatics and has formed OntoGEO - a
group conducting Ontological Research in GIScience. He is also adjunct
researcher of the Institute for the Management of Information Systems
(IMIS-ATHENA). His research interests include theoretical issues in
GIScience, knowledge representation, geospatial ontologies, semantic
interoperability, spatio-temporal modelling, concept mapping, and theoretical
cartography. He has co-authored one book and over 100 publications in
scientific journals and conference proceedings.

της ΚΤΗΜΑΤΟΛΟΓΙΟ ΑΕ (2004-2009), Πρόεδρος της ΣΑΤΜ ΕΜΠ (2006-2010), Chair της
Ομάδας Εργασίας II/6 - System Integration and Interoperability (2004-08) και
Co-Chair της Ομάδας Εργασίας ICWG II/IV - Semantic Interoperability and Ontology
for Geospatial Information (2008-12) της International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing
(ISPRS). Συντονίζει την ερευνητική ομάδα γεωπληροφορικής OntoGEO και είναι συνεργαζόμενος
ερευνητής του Ινστιτούτου Πληροφοριακών Συστημάτων και Προσομοίωσης
(ΙΠΣΥΠ-Ε.Κ. ΑΘΗΝΆ). Ειδίκευση: Επιστήμη Γεωγραφικής Πληροφορίας,
Γεωπληροφορική, Χαρτογραφία. Έχει αναλάβει ερευνητικά προγράμματα στη
Γεωπληροφορική. Έχει συμμετάσχει σε πλείστες επιστημονικές/οργανωτικές
επιτροπές συνεδρίων και εκδόσεων, ενώ είναι μέλος των series editors of
Dissertations in Geographic Information Science (IOS Press). Το δημοσιευμένο
έργο του περιλαμβάνει 1 ξενόγλωσσο επιστημονικό βιβλίο και πάνω από 100 δημοσιεύσεις
σε επιστημονικά περιοδικά και τα πρακτικά διεθνών συνεδρίων με κριτές.
