Accomodation

You will be staying in a hotel downtown Athens called Dryades. This is the hotel some of our students will stay for this year, whereas some others stay in flats. You don't have to bring your own towels and bed linen - everything will be provided by the hotel. Accommodation cost is 8,5 EUR per night, paid weekly to the hotel by you (with the money you will be receiving from your employer)

You can bring your laptop of course, there is wireless internet connection provided at your hotel for a price of 15 EUR per week (and the hotel is perfectly safe).

Last, but not least, let me inform you that there is a kitchen (for free) - so you can prepare your own food, and also laundry/clothes drying facilities at your hotel. Every time you use the washing machine it is 3 EUR, but one use of the washing machine is for 2 persons, so that makes 1,5 EUR each per time.

Transport: Airport - Athens

Since the airport is very far from the city center and transportation to and from it is very easy, we don't pick up students from the airport but from downtown. Don't worry about it, you just have to exit the arrivals hall, take a bus and you will be downtown!

The bus you need to take is X95 "Airport to Syntagma Express", and you can find the bus stop outside the arrivals hall between exits 4 and 5. The intervals of this bus is 10' to 20' and on average it takes around 50' to go to Syntagma, but this is a rough estimate since traffic conditions vary greatly during the day! Before entering the bus you should purchase a bus ticket from the kiosk in front of the bus stops. That's pretty much all about the bus, its terminal/last stop is at Syntagma.

Please also bring at least one passport type picture of you in order to issue a Greek student ID card for you. This student card will allow you to buy reduced price tickets for metro,buses,trains and ferries.

Since it is still quite early in our summer reception schedules, we have not arranged in detail our cultural activities and weekend trips yet. However, I can assure you that especially after the beginning of June, there will be an active program. Same applies to our orientation guide to Athens, but rest assured that any questions on your behalf are more than welcome - we'll be glad to give you advice on anything you might need.We have a facebook group in case you have facebook.Its name is 'IAESTE Athens 2011' and we will inform trainees for upcoming events and trips through this group.

Somebody of volunteering student for IAESTE Athens will be picking you up upon arrival from Syntagma square, the final stop of X95 bus. As soon as possible, we will inform you who is going to pick you up.
