What a coincidence!
A short story A 'Cultural Olympiad 2001-2004' event has been the "Ephemeral Structures" architectural competition, for the design of various light structures to be used during the Athens Olympics in 2004. One of the themes of the competition was "Landmarks of Olympic Activities," which I decided to pursue, having worked on an idea even before I registered for the competition in July. By November -when the deadline had been set- I was too busy with other commitments, so unfortunately I didn't manage to submit my half-finished entry. A few weeks ago the results of another architectural contest were announced, about the proposals for the World Trade Center vacant site in New York. One of the entries, by Foster, impressed me most of all; not because it was the least detestable, but because it was like if my 'Olympic Totem' concept -with its triangular facets evolving upwards- had been transformed into a building.
