summary

Texas A&M University College of Architecture, Architectural Association Environment & Energy Programme, and National Technical University of Athens School of Architecture held a seminar on the environmental aspects of Santorini vernacular architecture.

The seminar took place in the village of Oia in Santorini between 18-24/4/04, attended by 44 students from the 3 schools (15 from TAMU, 16 from AA, 13 from NTUA) plus 5 tutors and 2 guests.

The aim of the event was to highlight the dialectic between nature & the local architecture through lectures, discussions, special site visits, and above all by direct observation.

The highlight of the seminar was a brief project, in which 10 mixed student groups presented examples of the Four Elements being transformed into actual design forms through images or objects.
